Weekend get-away ...

Last weekend, Mami and Papi went away for the weekend! Thanks to a wonderful birthday present, Oma and Opa took care of Bigna and Andrin and Mami and Papi had their first weekend together since Andrin was born (!). After some careful thinking, they decided to go away and not stay home and be engulfed in all the projects that are still awaiting them at home. They went to a little village close to Meiringen called Rosenlaui. It is really remote and there is just this wonderful turn-of-the-century hotel and nothing else. But there are many opportunities to hike and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The weather was not perfect, but we enjoyed every minute of our get-away.

No visit to the alps without the famous Swiss postal cars. Here right in front of the hotel.
The "angel peaks" - view from our hotel. This is how the weather looked like on Saturday morning. Please keep that in mind as you watch the next pictures!

Detail from our hotel room.

The dining room - a dinner without any interruptions and no spilled drinks ....

The "living room".

In the morning, the farmer herded his cows to a higher field - right in front of the hotel.

The hotel.

Some Edelweiss ...

In the postal car to "Grosse Scheidegg" where we started our hike.

It was really just the two of us ...

At the start of our hike - raining and cold ...

On our hike, called the "romantic hike".

Mountain roses.

And this is what it looked like after some hours of hiking ... beautiful weather!

There was a water-powered saw mill that is still functioning. Impressive ....

Clemens' Swiss lunch ... cheese on top of bred.

Clemens after he ate his lunch ...

Right next to the hotel is the entry to a deep glacier-carved canyon.  (The glacier was actually visible from the hotel.)

On Sunday, the day started rainy again. We went to two more waterfalls. This is in the tram to the Reichenbachfall.

Reichenbachfall.

And then we also went to the Giessbachfälle.

And sat on the terrace of the beautiful Grand Hotel Giessbach.

Clemens behind the impressive waterfall.

Clemens tried his luck in front of the hotel, but not in this area ... guess why?

Another genuine Swiss lunch ... Älplermagronä. We felt ourselves a little bit like tourists :)

Brienzer See.

Loved this new interpretation of the three monkeys ... this time with chicken and a rooster.

A beautiful double rainbow on our way home to Muttenz after we picked up the children.

Happy Retirement!

Opa is retired! This past weekend, we celebrated with family and friends his retirement. Oma tried to keep the festivities a secret, but there were too many preparations involved that she was able to do just that! We had a great party and were so lucky with the weather. It rained in the morning, but then stayed dry for the entire party.
Happy retirement, Opa!
We know that your working life has been fun,
but we also know that you will have more fun now that you are retired!

Clean bill of health

Today, Andrin had his post-surgery appointment at the hospital. After a bump in the road (he had another infection after the surgery and was back on antibiotics), he has been doing well. They gave him a clean bill of health and we all hope that we will not be going to the hospital in the near future again. We are glad that he will be able to finish with his antibiotics tomorrow and hope that he will back to his normal self (not as tired during the day) soon! Andrin will be missing all the little toys that he gets when he is at the hospital, but well ... I think we can cope with that. Our next appointment: November 2012. Let's hope that we will make it until then with no more ear infections!!

Happy Birthday, Opa Jumbo

Last weekend, we celebrated Opa Jumbo's birthday. We were looking forward to some time in the pool and a barbecue, but it was rainy and rather cold. Still, we had a good time celebrating Opa Jumbo! Once again, Happy Birthday, Opa Jumbo!

Andrin is showing and explaining the train that he picked out for Opa Jumbo. It had an elephant riding in one of the wagons. And a tigger (for Andrin).

Just before we left for our visit with Opa Jumbo, Bigna tripped and hurt her lip and it was really puffy ...

Bigna loves shoes ... every kind of shoe ....

Experimenting with Papa if Lego can swim ...

Puddles ...

After a heat wave, we have had some rain ... actually, a lot of rain and thunderstorms, and hail, and ... well, puddles. Over the weekend, Mami wanted to pick up some plants and Andrin and Bigna discovered the perfect puddle right in front of the garden center.

Siblings ...

For Opa Jumbo's birthday, we tried to take some pictures ... not that easy with a quick moving toddler and an active boy ...
